As a kid I can remember a time when I heard the music for the ice cream truck coming through my neighborhood. I asked my parents for some money then ran out the door only to find a long line of other kids all clutching our quarters in anticipation. (Obviously from the quarters, it has been quite a few years) When I got to the window my favorite ice cream was sold out, and I could see other kids who got there before me enjoying the orange/vanilla pushup I had wanted. As a child this was devastating, as an adult, losing out on the perfect home is so much worse.
